Assessment and Referral.
Assessment
The initial assessment is conducted by a fully licensed, master's level counselor during one or more meetings. As with all EAP services, this service is entirely free of charge, and does not impact your insurance benefit. During these initial conversations, your counselor will gather appropriate demographic, social, psychological, medical, and work history from you. Based on these meetings, the EAP counselor recommend short term counseling at the EAP, referral to other providers for additional evalation, or connecting you with ongoing counseling.
Referral
Some concerns will require a referral to an outside provider. The EAP maintains an index of psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers, as well as providers within other disciplines, within the Lansing community in order to provide appropriate referrals to MSU employees seeking assistance beyond the scope of the EAP. Following the Assessment meetings, the EAP counselor will give you a list of providers that would be appropriate for follow up. The decision to accept the recommendations of the EAP counselor remains with you.
