Confidentiality.
Information revealed by an individual, through consultation with an EAP staff member,
is confidential and will not become part of the individual's employment record
Information shared during an EAP visit will be released to a third party only when
the employee fills out a Release of Information Form.
More specifically, the MSU EAP will not release any information
identifying an individual as a client receiving, or having received, counseling services unless:
- The client signs a release of information for authorizing specific information to be released to a specific person(s) for a determined purpose.
- A disclosure is directed by court order
- The client appears to be in immediate danger of harming him/herself or another person
- Information shared with the counselor reveals concerns related to suspected/possible child abuse or neglect (counselors are "forced reporters" of child abuse and are required by law to report any suspected abuse of a minor child).
